Jason grew up in the mountains of central New Mexico where he spent his childhood exploring and enjoying nature. His fascination with birds started when his mother put out a bird bath on the front porch and a flock of Western Bluebirds decided to pay a visit. About a month later Jason put up a birdhouse and had a pair of these beautiful birds setting up home. That summer he then started volunteering at Wildlife Rescue Inc. of New Mexico and that was the start of many bird filled years to come.
Today, Jason lives in Albuquerque and is currently a student at University of New Mexico where he is working on a B.A. in wildlife biology. He is an board member of the Central New Mexico Audubon Society and is involved with several conservation and restoration projects as well as a volunteer bander for Rio Grande Bird Research Inc. During the summers while class is not in session, he spends his time working on different bird related field jobs and has been lucky enough to work on projects with species such as Pinyon Jays, Golden-winged Warblers, Grasshopper Sparrows, and Gray Vireos.
There is nothing that Jason loves more than being outdoors looking at birds and sharing their beauty with others. When asked about what he loves about birding so much he said, “It’s not just the birds I’m looking for that makes birding so special to me. It is also all the beautiful places the birds take me and the amazing people I have met because of them.”
