were started by Judy duPlooy in Belize to give young men and women a better foundation and skill set to become professionals in their own country. Judy owns duPlooy’s Jungle Lodge where we often stay during our trips to Belize, she is working hard to enrich and empower the local community in western Belize by teaching them skills that will dramatically increase their ability to support themselves financially. Most of the students in these program work at Judy’s lodge where they are employed in basic service positions, but once they complete training Judy encourages them to apply for professional level jobs at her or other lodges where they can afford to sustain their families and even send their children to college!
Judy and her team are working hard to educate and empower an entire generation of Belizians to support themselves through ecotourism. And by utilizing the environment to raise people up, this program is sure to have a huge impact on the conservation of the natural areas in Belize!
