Through BRANT Raymond, Lee and I have had the opportunity travel to beautiful places, support amazing education, research and conservation projects, see breathtaking wildlife, had more than a few good laughs and perhaps best of all we’ve met some really amazing, like-minded people. We’ve even had the pleasure of bringing some of those people onto the BRANT team as guides to share their varied knowledge and incredible enthusiasm for birds, research, conservation and the outdoors! In just a year and a half we’ve gone from just the three of us to a total of nine guides living in four states across the country. Ashli Gorbet, Dave Krueper, Wezil Walraven, Jason Kitting and now introducing our newest additions John Brush and Doug Gochfeld! Each of these individuals are not only talented naturalists but enthusiastic interpreters, explorers, local experts, involved researchers and conservationists and most importantly a ton of fun! They each have something unique to bring to the table and we are very lucky to have each of them!
As for Doug and John, here’s a quick introduction for each of them:
Meet John Brush, long time resident and expert birder in South Texas! We first met John several years back while guiding at the Rio Grande Grande Valley Birding Festival in Harlingen, TX. John was, and still is, a guide for the festival as well as for Quinta Mazatlan in McAllen where he works. We were impressed with John’s knowledge as well as his undeniable enthusiasm and perhaps most importantly, his ever present du-rag. John is knowledgeable, fun, energetic and patient, all the best qualities in guide and we’re lucky to have him on the team!
In between applying for graduate school, John will be leading day trips and set departures in South Texas and beyond.
Doug hails from Brooklyn, New York but seems to be birding around the country and the world most of the time. He just returned from a trip to Brazil studying shorebirds and will be heading back to St. Paul, Alaska this summer where he’ll spend his third season as the resident bird guide finding incredible vagrants! BRANT first met Doug at the Rio Grande Valley Birding Festival a few years back guiding on behalf of Leica Sport Optics where he is part of the pro-staff and a frequent blog contributor.
Doug’s impressive resume, along with his knack for turning even the most ordinary birding day into an entertaining and informative event, make him a top-notch guide and we are very excited to have him join the BRANT team.
Doug will be guiding day trips in NYC and set-departures for BRANT including our first trip to world famous Cape May New Jersey in fall 2015!
